Lois Turnage, Citizen of Character

Congratulations to ISDTA President, Lois Turnage! Lois has been awarded the Citizen of Character Award by the Ray Center Iowa Character Counts!

For over 40 years, Lois Turnage has served her community as a teacher, coach, volunteer, and mentor, living the mantra, as stated by her award nominator, “I have been blessed, so what can I do for others?” As coach of the Pleasantville Drill Team and Color Guard, her teams participate in so many community activities that they have earned the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Iowa State Dance Team Association for the past 18 years. Her teams practices with the Marion County Special Olympics team, participates in the annual Iowa Shrine Bowl, and raise money for the Shriner’s Hospital, leads dance and aerobic exercises at the annual Exercise Your Character program, conduct a food drive, to name just a few community service projects.
